Call me “sili” but I love this…

We are in a new era...

An era to try and safe our planet.

Our biggest enemy... PLASTIC!

It is no secret that plastic straws and plastic in general are bad for the environment, especially our marine life.

As an animal lover and an avid scuba diver, the scary statistics shows that each year, 1 million seabirds and 100 000 marine animals die from ingesting plastic.

What a sad thought!

Plastic straws are the eleventh most found ocean trash studies found in 2017. And yet you still get companies making straws and people actually still using them. Logically that just doesn’t make sense to me. Surely countries can stand together and get certain laws in place to fight this dilemma we are facing?

It is so sad to think our ocean gets polluted by something that has become part of almost everything in our lives. Something that we think we can’t live without. Something that has made our lives easier and more convenient in so many ways. And yet, we destroy our planet in the process.

Why are we, as humans so selfish?  Why do we destroy the only planet we have to live on? A planet that is only good to us in so many ways.

For me, there is no better way to recharge my batteries than to spend quality time in the bush or precious time at the bottom of the ocean.

Did you know?

Over 500,000,000 plastic straws are used each day in the United States.

That is enough straws to circle around the Earth 2.5 times!

And that is only the United States.  What about the rest of the world?

If we don’t act now, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.

But what are we going to do about the problem?

Can we do something?

Yes, we most definitely can do something!

Like everything else in life, every little bit helps.  It is up to each and every person on this planet to make a stand and to help fight this problem. It starts with me and you. And you probably ask, but how?

A few weeks ago, we went for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. I was so pleased to see that they have decided to take a stand and do away with plastic straws. They gave my 15 month old son a paper straw to drink his chocolate milkshake with…

No, it did not end well!

Paper + Chocolate milkshake + Toddler = DOES NOT WORK!

Yes, it does not work! Especially with a little boy who still needs to learn that he needs to suck through the straw and not biting and chewing on the straw. And he just does not understand why there is no milkshake coming out anymore!

I had to make a plan!

I was given this straw to try out…

Silistraw!

At first I was skeptical. The thought of re-using the same straw over and over again just did not sound hygienically to me.

But this is a winner!

A fold-able silicone straw which is a genius discovery! It is small and compact and comes in a little container with its own cleaning brush. Easy to throw in a bag and take with you where ever you go.

It was like a blessing in the skies! I absolutely love this straw and so does my son. I take it everywhere we go and my son enjoys his milkshake without any hassle (and no tears).

Not only is the straw practical and convenient. They are fairly priced and are available in various colors (all my favorite colors).

As much as I love this straw, the best part of my Silistraw experience...

The initial delivery…  The packaging…

The attention to detail!

Yes, I am an attention-to-detail-kind-a-girl! And they have hit the nail on the head with their attention to detail. My Silistraw arrived in the most interesting packaging…

Edible marshmallows!

How clever is that? Usually things are packaged in those white Styrofoam balls or some sort of plastic. But not Silistraw! They’ve raised the bar.

Another way of saving our planet!

Not only does it look pretty, it also tastes delicious! And yes, what an environmental friendly way of packaging.

I was very impressed.

Needless to say! My son enjoys drinking his chocolate milkshakes where ever we go now. And yes, he can even chew the straw without it disintegrating!

And sometimes I can also enjoy a glass of flavored milk with my Silistraw when no one is watching.

This is definitely a product I can recommend to anyone.
